What would happen if it did go wrong?

What would happen if it did go wrong?

This one of two questions you should be asking yourself on a regular basis.  The other is "What could make things do go wrong?"  these questions are from Pre-suasion by Robert Cialdini.

This is actually the more important question to answer first.

Sometimes the solution to a problem is to not address the problem, and pay for the consequences later.  While this may sound counter-intuitive, when you're strapped for resources you have to make these choices.  Understanding which things that go wrong will destroy your company, and which things will be an inconvenience, is critical in making sure you're around long enough to succeed.

The unfortunate reality is that all the things that cause an inconvenience can stymie your success, and lead to the same result as all the things that can kill your business instantly.  Too many delays and distractions will stop your business.  Strategically knowing which delays to address and which ones to ignore are important in keeping your business afloat.
